All computers connecting to the Mills College network need to have the latest virus protection software and the latest security updates and patches for the operating system and applications.
On average, Mills College has 500+ students and faculty and staff using our wireless networking service each day. If infected with a virus or a worm, any one of these computers can disrupt services on campus.
Information Technology Services (ITS) staff will contact students, faculty, and staff individually when there is evidence of a virus or a worm on any computer connected to the Mills network. A message is sent to the user of the computer suspected of being infected and the computer's network access is blocked until the user has worked with ITS staff to address the problem. All other services (email, class materials, etc.) will remain available using other campus computers.
ITS recommends Sophos Home anti-virus. The Sophos software works on both PCs and Macs and is available to students, faculty, and staff at no charge.
To get your free Sophos Home anti-virus software, visit the Sophos anti-virus software download page and, under Sophos Home for PCs and Macs, click the download button.
If you have an earlier version of Sophos, be sure to remove the old copy and then install the most updated version.
