One of the special features about the residences at Mills is that each room is unique. These are not cookie-cutter halls with identical rooms; each one is slightly different. All rooms have a standard twin bed, desk, chair, small bookshelf, and dresser. Mills housing is spacious and charming.
Your housing contract starts on August 22 at 9:00 am. Students wanting to move in earlier to attend Golden Bear Orientation on UC Berkeley's campus must contact us by August 1, to set up early arrival on August 17 at an additional cost.
Keys are issued at Sage Hall on the Mills campus. Specific details will be shared prior to move-in day. Students will need to bring a form of ID with them to pick up their key packets.
Beds in Ege Hall are twin extra long.
All residential bathrooms are gender-inclusive/all-gender bathrooms. Hettie Belle Ege Hall has multi-stall bathrooms. While they have multiple stalls, these bathrooms are allowed to be locked temporarily for private, individual use.
Common areas, including bathrooms, will be cleaned daily during the business week by Mills College’s custodial staff. Students are responsible for cleaning their rooms.
All gas, electric, water, and trash is covered in the cost of a residence hall. Students will have access to the Mills wireless network. Cable TV is provided in the residence hall recreation room. In addition, the cost of our laundry machines is included in the housing fee.
Mills College is a closed campus—this means all visitors to campus must check in at the gatehouse before entering campus. Resident Assistants also conduct building walks to ensure residents are safe, and they serve on an on-call rotation to respond to any incidents that may arise. Visit our Safety and Transportation webpage for additional information.
Mills College has an existing shuttle that drives students to and from campus. To check the shuttle schedule, please consult the Mills College shuttle schedule. UC Berkeley students may access the Mills shuttle by showing the driver their Mills College ID. Please note that the shuttle is a singular vehicle and goes back and forth between the two campuses. This means that the shuttle may experience delays due to traffic. At high traffic times, the trip can take an hour each way.
Yes, campus parking is available in the Richards Road lot and other commuter parking lots on campus for a $71.10 fee/year. UC Berkeley students may contact the Mills Department of Public Safety to purchase a parking permit. Students who are interested in driving to and from UC Berkeley's campus also will need to work with the UC Berkeley Parking and Transportation office to apply for and purchase a student parking permit. For your convenience, having a car on campus has been preferred by previous UCB residents.
UC Berkeley students residing at Mills will be issued Mills College ID cards that will grant them access to key-card access to the residence hall and serve as their meal plan points card. In addition, this card will give them access to many services on campus, including sports and recreation facilities, computer labs, the library, and the dining halls.
UC Berkeley students will receive a modified meal plan with access to dining at both Founders Commons and the Tea Shop on the Mills campus. Students will receive 1,000 meal points per semester to be used at these dining locations. Unused points do not roll over from semester to semester.
UC Berkeley students will have access to the F.W. Olin Library for study during regularly scheduled hours. There also are select computer labs across campus that students will be able to access.

When you submit a housing application to Mills, you have agreed to our residential
agreement contract. If you need to cancel your residential contract, you must do so
in writing via email at housing@mills.edu. Your termination must be received prior to August 1 to avoid any cancellation fees.
Cancellation of your residential contract between August 1 and the first day of the
agreement term for occupancy may result in cancellation fees being assessed. After
the agreement term of occupancy begins, the resident may request a release based on
compelling, unforeseen, and documentable circumstances. To do so the resident must
complete a Release from Housing Agreement form and submit it to the Housing Management
and Dining Services office in Sage Hall, room 138. A decision on the written request
will be made within 15 work days of its submission. All submissions must occur no
later than 15 days prior to the end of a semester.
If a resident’s request for release is granted the individual will be charged a $500
cancellation fee. Refunds of housing and meal point charges will be prorated based
on the date of check-out from the assigned residence and return of housing keys. If
a resident’s request is denied, they are responsible for the terms of their housing
agreement until the end of the term of the agreement.
