Mills invites UC Berkeley students to explore the housing option available to them on our safe, beautiful, 135-acre campus in Oakland, just nine miles from the Berkeley campus. Living at Mills is classified as an off-campus housing option.

How to Apply

If you are a female-identifying UC Berkeley student who is not currently enrolled at Mills, you can use the following online application to apply for housing:

If you are a cross-registered UC Berkeley student who is taking classes here, and you want to live in Mills campus housing, please apply by logging into the Mills Resource Portal and applying for housing.

Residential Housing

Mills makes rooms available to students who are self-identified women as well as students assigned female at birth who do not identify with the gender binary. Students who live on campus will have an academic-year housing contract.

Ege Hall's common areas feature comfortable chairs and couches, cheerful decorations, a baby grand piano, and lots of natural sunlight.

Hettie Belle Ege Hall is a historic residence hall reserved for UC Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students living at Mills. The interior pairs a light, open design with modern-style furnishings and a spacious recreation room. Situated on the north side of campus, Ege Hall is conveniently located close to Founders Commons dining hall and provides easy access to the heart of campus

Beyond Ege Hall, UC Berkeley students will share common spaces on campus (such as Founders Commons, the Mills College Art Museum, and the F. W. Olin Library) with Mills students, providing daily opportunities to engage in cross-institutional and cross-discipline exchanges.

Additional Benefits

No Smoking Policy

Smoking is not allowed in any student residence, any campus building, or within 30 feet of building entrances, doors, or windows. Smoking of medical or recreational marijuana is not permitted on campus.

2019–20 Housing Rates

For UC Berkeley students, the Mills housing rates are:

  • Double room–$3,344 per semester
  • Single room–$3,793 per semester
  • Super single room–$4,696 per semester

Additional Fees

All residential setups require a meal points plan of $1,000 per semester. There is also a per semester Campus Comprehensive Fee of $600 which covers other campus services including the Mills shuttle, mailbox, laundry, and access to athletic facilities, and a wide variety of on-campus events.

*If you need to participate in UC Berkeley orientation, please contact us by August 1 to set up early arrival for August 19 at a nightly cost.

Winter Break Housing

We also Offer winter break housing for UCB students interested in housing during the winter. The winter break housing application/agreement is a paper application and needs to be submitted to HMDS by November 30, 2019.  There will be an additional cost for winter break housing.
