TO: Mills College Faculty and Staff
FROM: Beth Hillman
SUBJECT: Mills: Inside and Out

Dear all,

I write as we await the outcome of a battle over values in Washington DC, the fate of our Dreamers in the balance as a government shutdown looms. To clarify Mills’ policy with respect to our DACA and undocumented students and mixed status families, I want to reiterate our support of all students, regardless of status, and re-state our policy:

All students, faculty, and staff should, as soon as possible, notify Chief of Staff Renee Jadushlever, who is the College’s point of contact for those who may be subject to immigration actions. Renee’s office is in Mills Hall, Office of the President, and she can be reached at: 650-464-0431 (cell) or 510-430-2033(office) and should be contacted in the following circumstances:

  • if you are advised that an immigration officer is expected to enter, or has entered, the campus to execute a federal immigration order
  • when students, faculty, and staff are responding to or having contact with an immigration officer executing a federal immigration order, so that she can work with the appropriate legal resources to verify the legality of any warrant, court order, or subpoena

In her absence, individuals should be referred to the Office of the President, Mills Hall(510-430-2094).

This week, Mills won national recognition for the superb design of our new website with a Bronze Award. Sponsored by the Higher Education Marketing Report, theEDU Digital Marketing Awards recognize the best educational websites, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media, and social media. Thanks to the leadership of Associate Vice President of Marketing Judy Silva and her team for this positive visibility for Mills. Kudos to Judy, Renee Jadushlever, Jamiellin Kelsey, Jenny McKeel, Genevieve Neumuth, and those who provided technical support: Angelique Felgentreff, Lynne Jerome, and Jean Weishan.

I am in So Cal to visit donors and foundations and to meet with LGBTQ presidents. At my hotel last night, the Point Foundation held an event honoring its scholarship recipients, one of whom was Mills student leader Erin Armstrong ‘16, featured on the Point’s web page. I appreciate everyone working to make our students’ start to the New Year smooth and to celebrate Mills’ national reputation.
