Course Description

WGSS 180A
ST: Queer Ecologies
Spring

How have race, gender, and sexuality shaped our relationships with nature and our understandings of the role of humans in the natural world? This course considers how ideas of the natural and the unnatural have been instrumental in defining what it means to be human, securing racialized and sexualized hierarchies, and distributing environmental risks and pleasures. . At the same time, we will ask how alternative visions of the human and of nature that emerge from queer studies might inform our approaches to contemporary ecological crises.
