MA in Composition
Course Description

MUS 280B
Soundscapes and Written Expression
Spring

This course is designed for non-Music majors and explores how our listening faculties can inspire creative forms of written expression. A main activity of the class will be listening to recorded sound environments, engaging our ears and minds in detailed perceptual reflection. Just as a writer can be inspired by visual sensations of a particular physical locale, our work will focus on aural appreciation of sonic environments as a stimulus to our creative imaginations. Students will also create their own soundscapes and respond to them in written form as part of a final project for the course.
2017-18 One time only.
