MA in Literature
Course Description

ENG 289
Semester Project
Fall and Spring

Artists' books provide complex challenges for the artists who make them, and they are often contested forms in the mainstream art world. We will examine the impact of gender on this form, looking at historical antecedents such as the Book Beautiful and the Paris avant-garde and exploring contemporary global forms in books from Cuba to Iraq. Students will create their own artists' books as part of the studio practice that accompanies this seminar.
