Upward Bound Application

Applying to the Upward Bound Program requires completing an application and gathering necessary documents to submit to the program for review. Before completing an application, discuss with your parent/guardian the eligibility requirements for the program. Feel free to call our office if you have any questions.

Eligibility Criteria

The students applying for the Mills College Upward Bound Program must meet the following criteria:

  1. Must be a US citizen or permanent resident or in the process of becoming a resident
  2. Must be a first-generation college-bound student (neither parent has a BA/BS or 4-year college degree)
  3. Family’s taxable income must meet Federal TRIO Low-Income Levels or family receives federal or state assistance such as food stamps, free lunch, AFDC, Cal-Works, Section 8, etc.
  4. Attend one of our target schools

Application Process and Materials

The application process includes an online application with two sections: one that you complete and one that your parent or guardian completes. To complete the application, you'll need to provide income information (public assistance documentation, food stamps, free lunch, AFDC, Cal-Works, Section 8, or tax forms), so have that ready before you begin.

Additionally a teacher or counselor must complete a school personnel recommendation for you as part of your application.
